The third educational competition "xplore New Automation Award 2005" will be launched by Phoenix Contact on February 6, 2004.

For example, entries for the last two competitions included an automated hotdog machine, a production system that could be operated via the Internet, and an automated system for the desiccation of timber. This third educational competition in 2004/2005 will play an important role in the celebrations to mark 10 years of Phoenix Contact College.

In August, 100 entries will be selected, and will then compete worldwide for top honors. From this point on, the ideas will be transformed into practical applications, creating sophisticated technical projects. Each group will receive support in the form of automation equipment and software to a value of Euro 3000. Trainees from industrial companies will compete with professors and students from universities; teachers and high school students will join forces to work out solutions. Throughout the competition, teamwork, creativity, and knowledge will be the keys to success.

In March 2005, the results will be presented at Phoenix Contact in Blomberg, Germany. A jury of international experts from the fields of education, science, and technology will assess the projects and select the best ones. Finally, the patron of the competition, Mrs Edelgard Bulmahn, Federal Minister for Education and Research, will present awards to the winners at the Hanover Fair in April 2005.
